LEWIN’S ICEBERG CHANGE MODEL
LEWIN’S ICEBERG CHANGE MODEL effectively describes the strategic steps an organization must take in order to manage change effectively. This ability makes a company more resilient. Lewin’s model uses the analogy of an iceberg to describe change – the Iceberg must
- Unfreeze (melt),
- Move (change) and
- Refreeze again into a new position.
The Unfreeze stage is all about communicating why change is essential. The Move stage is actually carrying out the change by educating people, communicating change to stakeholders, involving key players and using change agents to speed up the process. The Refreeze stage is the final step which emphasizes and consolidates the positive aspects of change.
