Overview

In today’s modern business environment, where data analysis is a core pillar of strategic decision-making, proficiency in tools such as Python is essential for any organization that aims to remain competitive. Python, with libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, and Matplotlib, offers powerful capabilities for data processing, visualization, and analysis, enabling automation and the development of customized solutions. This one-day seminar provides participants with essential knowledge and practical skills in data analysis using Python. Through interactive exercises, participants will learn how to manage, process, and present data in order to support informed, data-driven decisions. By the end of the seminar, participants will be able to use Python to develop simple yet effective solutions that enhance the accuracy and efficiency of their data analyses.

Importance of the Seminar

At the recent National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Summit, Grant Thornton Ltd collaborated with Michelle Lee (Director and CEO of Obsidian Strategies) and Deborah Dunie (Director and CEO of DBD Insights), providing critical insights into the integration of modern data analytics technologies within organizations. According to the survey results conducted during the summit, participants acknowledged the need to incorporate data analytics tools into their organizational strategies. However, more than two-thirds (69%) of respondents had not received specialized training in the use of data analytics tools such as Python, while 95% reported that some board members had only limited or no knowledge of how to use these tools.

At the skills level, participants will be able to:

  • Develop basic Python programs for reading, cleaning, and processing data.
  • Perform data analyses using Pandas and NumPy to identify trends and patterns.
  • Explain analysis results through visualizations using Matplotlib or Seaborn.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in applying fundamental data analysis techniques.
  • Select appropriate libraries and methods for different types of data.
  • Document analysis steps and results produced using Python.
  • Organize simple analytical workflows to automate repetitive processes.

At the attitudes level, participants will be able to:

  • Advocate responsible data management and analysis practices, with an emphasis on accuracy and transparency.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop Python-based solutions.
  • Compare different analytical methods by evaluating their advantages and limitations.
  • Promote continuous learning and skills development in data analytics.
  • Actively participate in teams or projects that use Python to support business decision-making.
Upon completion of the seminar, participants will have the foundational knowledge required to apply Python to their own analytical needs, enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of business analysis.
